Pelican Systems has been certified as a Level Six B-BBEE (Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment) contributor with its B-BBEE procurement level at 60%.
Pelican Systems embraces transformation within South Africa and has aligned itself with the Generic Codes of Good Practice as established through the Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment Act 53 (B-BBEE act).
Pelican System’s whose JV partners are Lafarge Gypsum South Africa scored full points for Procurement, Socio-Economic Development and Enterprise Development.
Employee Skills Development – Pelican Systems has invested major resources and time in training and developing their staff over the years. In 2008 the focus was on their sales and transport division. Achieve Global was contracted to train sales staff on a variety of aspects that would enable staff to develop their skills and offer their customers an improved service level. The company’s drivers were enrolled for a professional driver’s course which was facilitated by Sizo Siza and the aim of the course was to enhance the drivers’ skills and aid them execute their jobs with more professionalism.
 
Socio Economic Development - Pelican Systems has employed Wellnomix Employee Wellness Support Service since February 2007.
Services available to all employees include:
Wellness workshops, National health observances, Special AIDS Workshops including STI Awareness, Candlelight Memorial Day, Women’s Day and World AIDS Day.

Personal wellness consulting on health, trauma and stress related issues including screening for blood pressure, random glucose, cholesterol, pregnancy and HIV and AIDS testing is available to all employees. Chronic ailment support and risk management programs are available for employees living with chronic conditions such as Asthma, High Blood Pressure, High Cholesterol, Diabetes, HIV, AIDS, Menopause, Obesity, and TB which includes education on the disease/ailment, medicine compliance, lifestyle modification and treatment coordination.
Participation in these workshops is entirely voluntary but the historic uptake is high and demonstrates the high level of trust between employer and employee.

Enterprise Development – Pelican System’s main focus for 2008 has been to assist the newly formed BEE company Ifuba Products to get their business off to a good start.Some of the assistance offered to Ifuba by Pelican Systems included discounted transport and an interest free loan.
