AMF Mineral Fibre ceiling tiles

Pelican Systems is the exclusive distributor of AMF ceiling tiles in KwaZulu Natal

AMF is one of the most innovative high performance ceiling manufacturers in the world. The business is characterised by innovation and expertise. AMF Thermatex ceiling tiles are made from new generation bio-soluble mineral wool, clay and starch and are thereforebased on natural raw materials. Mineral wool offers excellent fire resistance and acoustic performance.

AMF products are used on each and every continent and are particularly popular where the constructional and aesthetic requirements to be fulfilled are complex.
AMF considers itself to be a supplier of complete ceiling system in which safety and efficiency can be optimised by the use of modern ceilings.
For this reason the range is divided into the following specific product areas: fire protection, sound insulation, health and hygiene, contemporary designs for an integrated range of materials including mineral and technically challenging solutions for sound.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY
Environment Safety Standards
In 2002 the decision was made to increase the scope for AMFs Quality Management certification and to adopt ISO 14001, the standard governing the management of environment systems. AMF Head office is situated in Grafenau, right by the Bavarian National Park and in the midst of the tourist region that
forms the largest woodland area in Central Europe. Environmental protection starts with the manufacturing process. By selecting the right raw materials we can maximize efficient manufacture of the product for its life cycle. Setting the standards in production procedures and improvements in machinery and technology contribute to crucial reductions in energy use and minimal emissions of pollutants. The closed production cycle means that water used in the process is recycled several times while dust, off cuts and waste material are reused in the manufacturing operation. Eliminating unnecessary packaging and reducing waste is a vital part of the business. To reduce pollution as much as possible, AMF uses only untreated wood for making pallets, waste paper for cardboard packaging and pure PE foil for packing. In spite of the product’s long life cycle AMF tiles are able to be recycled. Printing on the back of the tile ensures that the raw materials used can be identified.

AMF's DIN EN ISO 14001 certification proves our greater than average commitment to environmentally friendly production.

AMF tiles have been awarded with the BLUE ANGEL ECOLABEL in recognition of special environmental friendliness for the following reasons:

They are manufactured by using environmentally less harmful substances and material.
They do not have an adverse impact on the living environment from a health point of view.
They do not contain any hazardous substances that might well impede waste disposal.

They fulfill the essential criteria requirements by Blue Angel i.e.
No halogenated organic compounds used in the production or as flame retardant
No plasticizing substances
No blowing agents (e.g. HFCs or HCFCs)
No biocides
No pigments which contain lead, cadmium or chromium VI compounds as constituent parts
Indoor Air Quality: Emission Values for TVOC, TSVOC, VOC and Formaldehyde due to the requirements of the blue angel shall not be exceeded.

STAINABLE BUILDING DESIGN with AMF THERMATEX Acoustical Ceiling
Sustainability becomes an increasingly important issue in commercial building design. It is important that architects who are designing green buildings in mind be aware that ceiling systems can help to achieve Green Building Credits in a number of different categories.
For Example Energy and Atmosphere, a high light-reflectance pure white ceiling contributes to optimize Energy Performance by reducing the energy required to light a room.
Suspended THERMATEX Ceilings can also contribute significantly in the Materials and Resources category in the following areas:
• MR Credit 2.1, 2.2 (Construction Waste Management): AMF has the possibility to recycle AMF Ceiling tiles. This program enables building owners to ship old AMF ceilings (production date after 1996) from renovation projects to the AMF plant as an alternative to landfill disposal.
• MR Credit 4.1, 4.2 (Recycled Content): AMF ceilings contain a high level of recycled material in the form of pre-consumer waste and post-consumer product. The amount of recycled content varies by product. AMF THERMATEX ceilings: 10% - 40%. Ceilings can also be a factor in the Indoor Environmental Quality category by contributing to EQ Credit 8.1, 8.2 (Daylight and Views). This is because high lightreflectant ceilings can “extend” daylighting into a space. A AMF-THERMATEX Ceiling can also be a factor in the Energy and Atmosphere category by contributing to EA Credit 1 (Optimize Energy Performance) and  EQ Credit 7.1 (Thermal Comfort: Design). This is because the low thermal conductivity values contribute to insulate the ceiling void and therewith to reduce the amount of energy to heat or cool the room.

Pelican Systems stocks the following surface patterns of AMF Mineral Fibre Ceiling Tiles:
Other surface patterns are available upon request.
Thermatex Mercure SE (NRC = 0.55 / RH up to 90%)
Thermatex Star SE (NRC = 0.55 / RH up to 95%)
Thermatex Fine Stratos SE Micro (NRC = 0.55 / RH up to 95%)

Orders for surface patterns other than those listed above are subject to the standard lead time.

*Pelican Systems will endeavour to fulfill any special requirements you may have when placing an order for any of AMF products which we carry.

AMF Mineral Fibre Ceiling Tile Properties
Mineral fibre ceiling panels are natural products derived from the inexhaustible raw material of stone. Mineral fibre has unbeatable structural characteristics, particularly as regards fire protection. Our mineral fibre ceiling panels do not contain asbestos.

Resistance to humidity:
AMF mineral fibre tiles are suitable to resist humidity conditions of 70, 90, 95%

Sound insulation/Sound Absorption properties:
AMF functional panels have outstanding sound insulation values both as regards sound absorption and longitudinal sound insulation. Any of the ceiling systems from our Acoustics range are particularly suitable if a higher degree of sound insulation is required.

Independent Fire Protection:
Independent fire protection ceilings are suspended ceilings that satisfy fire resistance requirements both from above and from below the ceiling.

Mineral Fibre ceiling panels thickness:
As a general rule, depending on the type of panel, mineral fibre ceiling panels have a thickness of 15mm, 19mm or 40mm. They can, however, differ from these measurements depending on customers needs.

Hygiene requirements:
AMF are able to offer proven solutions for clean rooms (in accordance with DIN EN ISO 14644. US Fed. Standard 209E und VDI Guideline 2083 Sheet 1) Mineral fibre ceiling panels manufactured by us can be endowed with HYGENA features which inhibit the growth of bacteria or fungus, thus preventing any additional exposure of the air in the room to microorganisms. Clean rooms are special constructions which reduce and classify the exposure of a room to particles (e.g. dust) AMF clean room ceilings have been tested to achieve this performance. AMF Hygena is a treatment to AMF ceiling tiles so as to inhibit the growth of bacteria and fungi. Available for all AMF mineral fibre surface patterns.
